All
of your teeth play a crucial role in chewing, speaking and in
maintaining proper alignment of other teeth. Tooth loss does not
necessarily have to occur as you age. But in case you do lose teeth,
they must be replaced in order to maintain proper functioning of your
mouth.
Bridge denture is nowadays becoming the widely used option to replace a
missing tooth. If
you are missing a small section of teeth, a bridge is a
natural-looking set of crowns/caps that can be cemented in to fill
that space. It consists of a fake or dummy tooth with a cap attached
on each side. The cap on each side is cemented to the teeth next to
the open space and will support the dummy tooth in the middle.
Fixed
bridges are bonded into one or more teeth next to the gap and can
only be removed by a dental professional. The teeth next to the gap
are generally prepared the same way as for dental crowns. Removable
bridges, on the other hand, as the name implies, can be taken out and
cleaned. Fixed bridges offer more stability as compared to their
removable counterparts.
Denture
bridges can be constructed from gold alloys, non-precious alloys,
porcelain, or a combination of these materials. Porcelain is often
bonded to either a precious or non-precious metal.
