On the day of your surgery, only consume soft foods and liquids and avoid hot drinks. Consuming hot drinks before the local anaesthetic wears off can prove to be harmful for implants. It is advisable that one drinks plenty of water but should not use straws as the sucking motion can cause bleeding.

Once the surgery is over to maintain dental hygiene, start using chlorhexidine mouthwash that is provided by the surgeon and continue it for a week. Do not brush on the surgical site for the first few days as this can cause damage to the implant. Having hot salt water mouthwashes will help heal the area faster.The affected area should not be touched for a few days with finger and tongue. Also avoid doing any strenuous exercise for the first 48 hours after the surgery.
